What it does

An MCP server that lets Cursor, Claude Desktop, Codex and other agents open and edit CapCut drafts and OpenCut projects: tracks, clips, trims, text and captions, transitions, effects and audio. It has 59 tools and every write is a dry run until you say to save it.

The project describes itself as: "Wag na kayo magbayad ng 5k PHP. Ito na — libre. MCP server for CapCut + OpenCut from Cursor, Claude, Codex, Antigravity, OpenCode, KiloCode, Qwen Code and ZCode. 59 tools: timeline editing, effects catalog, voiceover (OpenAI/ElevenLabs), Remotion/HyperFrames render. Premiere/Filmora export is BETA and untested. Dry-run safe."

How to set it up

  1. Install Node.js 18 or later
  2. Clone the repo, then run npm install and npm run build
  3. On Windows run pwsh -File scripts/install-windows.ps1 (or bash scripts/install-unix.sh on macOS/Linux) to add it to your AI apps
  4. Restart your AI app, check that video-editor shows in its MCP list, and ask it to open your latest CapCut draft

This is a plain English summary of the project's own instructions. Commands and versions change, so always follow the current README at the source link

Safety notes

  • Edits CapCut's draft_content.json directly because CapCut has no official API, so close CapCut before saving
  • Writes are dry runs by default and the server backs up a project before overwriting or deleting it
  • export_project only queues a request and does not render a video; render_project renders through Remotion or HyperFrames
  • The README says MIT, but GitHub does not detect a license file, so check before reusing the code
  • Brand-new project (created Oct 2026)

General rule: open a duplicate of your project before letting any agent make changes, and read what a script does before approving it
